MensCraft is indebted to the fantastic fundraising efforts of personal trainer, James Dean, who ran the entire 83 miles of the Norfolk Coastal Path in under 24 hours, on Friday 16th June.
Here’s James’ own words recounting his stunning feat.
On Friday June 16th I set off from Hunstanton beach at 6:30am to run the entire length of the Norfolk Coastal Paths, which is a huge 83 miles. This was by far the longest run I had ever taken on. I’m not a natural runner and did pretty much no training before attempting it!
It was a hot and dry day which didn’t help the exhaustion even from the start. Luckily enough my fiancée was meeting me every two hours in the car to provide water and snacks.
After about 35 miles I was really starting to feel it in my feet and legs but there was no way I was giving up. I had some friends running various sections of the second half with me which really helped me through those dark moments.
Around midnight, when we hit Winterton, it was so misty that even with head torches we couldn’t see much at all. The terrain there was really sandy, dark and cold from the mist, but once we had made it to Caister, it was like euphoria knowing the end was in sight.
We stumbled our way through Great Yarmouth and Gorleston and finally arrived in Hopton at around 3am Saturday morning.
I honestly can’t thank everyone who supported me enough. They really helped make this possible and I hope that doing this inspires others to believe in themselves and know that they can achieve anything.
I also hope that the incredible generous donations from everyone will help support MensCraft in their incredible work they do for men with mental health difficulties.
The funds James has raised will help support a development programme for boys in the final years of primary school preparing for the transition to secondary school, as well as boys in older age groups. Combining one-to-one mentoring and group sessions, the programme encourages boys to improve their communication, conflict management and emotional literacy skills.
