MensCraft will soon be delivering a new programme of support for men facing loneliness in later life, thanks to funding of over £94,000 from the Earl of Northampton’s Charity, part of the Mercers’ Older People & Housing Grants Programme.

The funding, over 3 years, will enable us to deliver free, purposeful, social activities, group sessions and specialist support in Norwich and North Norfolk for men who are experiencing social isolation caused by, for example, bereavement, retirement, poverty, caring responsibilities, disability or chronic ill health.

The programme will support men to find and embed new routines and companionship, provide opportunities to give back to their communities and share the emotional and practical difficulties they are facing in their later years.

Tim Allard, Development Manager at MensCraft said ‘ As men approach later-life, many of the structures and behaviours that keep them connected to others can change or disappear altogether.

‘Retirement, declining health and mobility, bereavement of friends or partners all reduce opportunities for social contact. While some men take these life changes in their stride, for others, adjusting to these transitional events can be extremely challenging.  This very welcome funding from the Earl of Northampton’s Charity will enable MensCraft to support these men, helping them connect with others and share some of the challenges of later-life.’
