Cromer Pit Stop members, led by MensCraft’s Adam Shawyer, and RNLI volunteers enjoyed a visit to the offshore RNLI station on the end of the Pier in September.
Pit Stop members were treated to a superb talk in the crew room, exploring the history of the service nationally, along with the story of the rescue fleet and lifeguards around the East Anglian coastline.
The highlight of our afternoon was, of course, getting up close to Cromer’s enormous Tamar Class vessel (pictured) which, when paged by Humber Coastguard, roars down the mighty ramp and straight out of the doors into the raging North Sea within 6 minutes.
Entirely crewed and staffed by volunteers, Cromer Lifeboat is a fine local institution and if you have never visited the Henry Blogg Museum or stations, what are you waiting for?!
For one exciting moment we joked we might have to man the mighty Tamar ourselves as loud sirens wailed around us, reassuringly perhaps just the team securing the doors at the end of another day.
Thank you so much to Lifeboat RNLI volunteers Neil and Chris for spending so much time with the Pit Stop members.
We can’t wait to visit again and host you at our Cromer Pit Stop.
