Quiet time by the water

On Sunday 30th April, Norwich Pit Stop members gathered at Shallowbrook Lakes, Costessey, for a day’s fishing. This was our first such event in Norwich and it was ably facilitated by MensCraft’s Nick Buck, who is our ‘lead’ on fishing (thanks also to the Angling Trust for their support). As you will see from the pics, above, the weather was glorious. We were also very grateful for such a warm welcome from the Shallowbrook proprietors, Steve and Sandy. Here are a few quotes from members about their experience of the day:

‘It was a lovely day and catered for every ability level. It was great to see people who had never held a rod or a whip in their lives catching a fish on their first attempt, and it’s little successes like that that can really do one’s mental health the world of good and open up new avenues into such activities.’

‘I thoroughly enjoyed the day. The location was terrific, the people were very friendly and it was a tonic to be out in the fresh air in such a welcoming group.’

‘Just a quick message to say how much I enjoyed the fishing yesterday. A good bunch of blokes of all abilities who were keen on making the day a good one for all involved. Nick was brilliant and so informative helping everyone out. A lovely few hours to just relax and forget everything except the fishing and the great surroundings.’

‘I enjoyed it immensely, as did everybody I spoke to on the day (which was pretty much everyone). Being last to leave, I did a quick litter check before going, and found absolutely nothing! Very reassuring in this day and age. Looking forward to the next one in May.’

We will be making this a regular part of the Norwich Pit Stop program, meeting on the last Sunday of the month (subject to the lake being available). If you are interested in joining us, please email me via colin@1136789091.n79310.test.prositehosting.co.uk but do bear in mind that, as we are nearly full in terms of numbers, we may have to add you to a waiting list. If we then have the capacity to run additional sessions we will endeavour to do so.
