Welcome…
Welcome to the new Pit Stop blog. Let me introduce the two Pit Stop Coordinators, Nick Buck and Colin Howey. Nick is working in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, whilst Colin is based in Norwich. We are looking to develop both Pit Stops through activities where men make connections, form friendships and build a sense of belonging. We would like to welcome new members (men aged 18+) to get involved. Our colleagues in our Prevention and Positive Activities team also facilitate Pit Stops in locations across Norfolk.
The Pit Stop idea…
The concept of ‘The Pit Stop’ was developed by wellbeing activist, Oz Osborne (not the singer!). Oz described the idea of a Pit Stop in the following way:
‘Racing drivers need to make a pit stop in order to continue on their journey. They require new tyres, more fuel and repairs. Physically and psychologically, we will all perform better if we take a pit stop from time to time as well! On our personal journeys, we need to leave ‘the track’ so we can get the support we need to survive, thrive and maintain ourselves to continue on the road ahead. This applies to each and every one of us on our own journeys. We all need to take time out of the race for a pit stop!’
Activities…
At present, Pit Stops involve activities such as:
- Social gatherings
- Gardening
- History and health walks
- Yoga
- Art
- Tennis
- Group visits to the cinema
- An online quiz
