Space to breathe. Space to belong.
Life can feel relentless. Work, family pressures, isolation, stress, loss, poor mental health or simply feeling stuck can leave many men carrying more than they let on. The Woodland Project offers something different: time outdoors, practical activities, good company and the chance to reconnect – with nature, with other people and with yourself.
Set in the woods and shaped by the changing seasons, this six-session activity brings men together in a welcoming, non-judgemental environment where conversation happens naturally and nobody is expected to have all the answers.
Whether you’re struggling, rebuilding, looking for connection or simply wanting to get outside more, you’ll be welcome here.
I learned how to create a fire from scratch – a useful skill for future camping trips!
What happens at the Woodland Project?
The Project runs as a series of small group sessions in natural settings across Norfolk. Activities vary throughout the year, but may include:
- Green woodworking
- Campfire cooking
- Fire lighting and bushcraft skills
- Guided walks and nature connection
- Conservation and practical woodland tasks
- Mindfulness and quiet reflection
- Creative activities and storytelling
- Tea, conversation and shared meals around the fire
You don’t need any previous experience. There’s no pressure to talk, no expectation to perform and no “right kind” of man to be.
Some men come for the practical activities. Some come for the company. Some come because they need a reason to leave the house. All are equally valid.
I really enjoyed the whole programme. It’s been good for me and I would do it again.
Why nature?
We know that spending time outdoors can improve mood, reduce stress and support better mental and physical health. Nature gives us space to slow down, notice things differently and step away from the pressures of everyday life.
But the Woodland Project is about more than being outdoors. It’s about belonging. Many men tell us they miss having spaces where they can be themselves without judgement or pressure. Around a fire, while carving wood or making a brew together, conversations often emerge naturally. Friendships form. Confidence grows. Men begin to realise they are not alone.
Who's it for?
The Woodland Project is open to men aged 18+. You might benefit if you are:
- Feeling isolated or disconnected
- Experiencing stress, anxiety or low mood
- Going through a difficult life change
- Wanting to improve your wellbeing
- Looking for friendship or community
- Interested in practical outdoor activities
- Struggling to find spaces where you feel comfortable
At MensCraft, we believe wellbeing grows through connection, purpose, contribution and community. The Woodland Project combines all of these in a grounded, practical and accessible way. It’s not therapy. It’s not boot camp. It’s not about “fixing” men. It’s about creating spaces where men can build confidence, friendships, resilience and a sense of belonging – one conversation, one campfire and one shared experience at a time.

“As always, being in nature is hugely beneficial to my mental wellbeing. The positive, accepting, caring environment you create within the group is a wonderful, restorative experience.”

“I enjoyed meeting new people and sharing stories, as well as connecting with nature. All that helped enrich me."

"I loved being able to socialise with other people and having the opportunity to relax with nature and horses. I enjoyed the experience more than I could have imagined!"
