Profile

I am a wellbeing activist who is passionate about creating environments within which people can heal, grow and flourish – and that aspiration is surely at the heart of a successful Pit Stop. The Pit Stop brings men (aged 18+) together through informal activities and conversation to build social connection, friendship and a sense of belonging.

My personal ‘journey’, has involved me changing and re-defining my sense of self in profound ways throughout my life-course – not least, in becoming kinder to myself as I have matured. I have grown through a violent PTSD afflicted childhood where, in ‘survivor’ mode, I hid behind my fists; growing up into my gentler, stronger, more nuanced self as an adult. In my opinion, it is a brave thing to take off our metaphorical armour, revealing our complex, authentic selves to others and I witness a lot of this bravery within the MensCraft community.

My greatest achievement is playing a key part in breaking a ‘chain’ of abuse that ran through several generations within a side of my family, but which stopped with me. My daughters are loved, and I witness with much pride the ripple effects of this positive legacy being passed onto my grandchildren.

As well as reading around a wide range of subjects, I enjoy listening to podcasts focusing on history, politics, lifestyle medicine and comedy. As a Heritage Educator and Interpreter, I have a keen interest in history and visit a lot of lovely old places, in part to find some stillness and replenish my wellbeing and emotional resilience.
