Work in Progress
Work in Progress is for men who want a life of depth, meaning, purpose, connection and transformation. The name reflects the idea that no one is the finished article but by putting in effort, step by step, we all move forward.
What we offer
Work in Progress provides practical tools and therapeutic activities for men across Norfolk and Waveney who want to grow and develop, as well as improve their mental and emotional wellbeing. Through workshops, courses, therapy and coaching, we enable men to develop the skills and insights they need to navigate life’s challenges.
We’re here for men who are:
- Dealing with stress, anxiety or overwhelm
- Looking for practical ways to cope with daily pressures
- Working through past trauma or difficult experiences
- Wanting to understand themselves and improve their relationships
- Ready to make positive changes in their lives
Our support is flexible and meets you where you are. Whether you’re taking your first steps towards getting your head together or you’re ready for the positive challenge of taking deeper dives through therapeutic work, we offer confidential and non-judgemental spaces for you to do the work you need.
EMDR therapy
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps you process traumatic memories and difficult experiences that are still affecting you today.
If you’ve experienced a traumatic event that feels stuck in your mind and body, EMDR can help you move forward. This therapy works by helping your brain process memories in a way that reduces their emotional impact.
Due to funding, we are currently only able to offer this service to men who we are already involved with with The Contact Service and Dads Onside.
Counselling for men
Volunteer therapists needed
Whether you’re a trainee looking for a placement, newly qualified and looking to gain more experience, or an experienced therapist looking to give something back, we need your help.
Demand for our one-to-one therapeutic support across Norfolk and Waveney has grown, and our waiting list is building. To reach more men and offer them the space they need, we are looking for volunteer counsellors and psychotherapists to join our team. We welcome a broad range of approaches and modalities.

Mindfulness for men
Your thoughts aren’t facts. Learn how to treat them that way.
Designed specifically for men, our eight-week MBCT course provides a confidential space to break the cycle of spiralling thoughts and low moods. By combining proven cognitive therapy tools with mindfulness, this course helps you stop fighting your mind and start changing your relationship with your thoughts.
What we explore:
Recognising spirals: Spotting the early warning signs of a dipping mood.
Taming the inner critic: Treating negative thoughts as passing events, not absolute truths.
Stopping overthinking: Shifting from constant worrying to being fully present.
Building inner strength: Learning to stop battling with yourself and cultivate self-compassion.
Reconnecting with life: Practical ways to step out of your head and enjoy daily life.
This course includes eight weekly two-hour sessions, guided home practices, and a dedicated day-long retreat in Week 6.
Book a course, activity or workshop
We periodically run therapeutic activities, courses and workshops which are open to all. Find and book them here.
I have definitely been able to live more in the present moment, especially during times or activities when my mind would ordinarily wander and ruminate. That has had a calming effect.
