I can only speak personally about what I find helpful and a gratitude for the 8 of us that meets in rural Norfolk once a month. To do so let me make something clear. I enjoy the company of women and indeed mixed company. However, there is something about being in the company of other men that is particular and distinct. The laughter has a resonance – not laddish banter at all – but common understanding perhaps about things men find funny. The depth of discussion, disclosure and sometimes vulnerability across no end of topics including intimate relationships, friendships, money, work, kids, politics, sexuality etc.
Over time where trust is built and the group is safe enough the understanding and encouragement and support of other men counts. It counts in challenging my self limiting beliefs and those of others in the group. It counts in being seen, witnessed and challenged by others. It can stir me up too.
Two hours a month. At a regular venue. With a format and set of ground rules. A commitment to be at the meeting unless you really cannot. It is a reservoir, a well, a resource that nourishes and sustains and maintains.
